A fine secondary steel mesh can be welded to the reverse of all apertures of the radiator guard. The mesh has bi-directional twisted holes which makes threading of ligatures all but impossible, thus minimising the risk of self harm.

This design feature has been extensively used on radiator guards in secure units and mental health facilities, where ligature points need to be removed.
Contour Casings has also developed an anti-ligature TRV shroud which is fitted to the radiator guard, to enable the building users to control radiator temperature easily, but also remove the ligature risk of an exposed TRV.
These can be retro-fitted to most radiators or radiator guards, whether on one-pipe or two pipe systems.
