It is a well known fact that pipe boxing is a very common practice. Not only is it a common practice for commercial building but also for home buildings. In general, pipe boxing is used to cover up pipes that are visible to the eye. Covering up pies is good for many reasons. The two most common and important reasons are to make an area where pipes reside more pleasing to look at and also to add safety in the area. With these two important factors, pipe boxing is a very lucrative industry.
When constructing a commercial building, many features need to be added into the design. Many times builders decide they need to add features or alternate design structure after the construction of that particular area has commenced. This is true in some cases, but in most cases, the contractor knows that a cover up will be needed. This makes the situation come to two conclusions. The construction companies can either use pre-formed (or pre-made) casings, or, they can use pipe boxing that would require on site work. Let us look at the two in a clearer light.
If you choose to use a pre-form for casing in a pipe, you will bring the casing and install it to the desired area. This is a very quick, easy and thought out process. On the other hand, you can use pipe boxing. This is where you take wood and nails (typically) and box in a pipe. Both produce the same result, however, one takes longer.
Pipe boxing on sites has been done many years before and continues to be the main way of conducting pipe cover up. When you actually look at pipe boxing, it take significantly more time to encase a pipe through the pipe boxing method than using a pre-form. However, most companies still use pipe boxing as the way of getting it done.
What does this mean for the project when on site pipe boxing is used? It means the company is wasting time and money. This fact has become increasingly known and some contractors are making the switch. When pipe boxing is used, you are paying a worker twice as much because they are taking twice the amount of time to assemble. After assembly, the wood needs to be painted to match, which creates more lost time, and many inconsistencies are drawn from the finish. It has been proven that pre-form is a much more productive way of covering pipes.
For the most part, the over all summation can fall in the fact that pre-form is the “new” way to go. Pre-form casing has been around for many years, almost as long a pipe boxing, however, it has only really recently come to the forefront. This is largely due to the increase in wages of workers. Companies are now trying to find more ways to save money to meet project budgets while still maintaining the required codes and regulations. Although pre-form casing is the new wave, pipe boxing will never become obsolete.
